6TH OF APRIL 2021
WMTBOC 2021 WILL GO AHEAD AS PLANNED
The IOF and organisers of the World Mountainbike Orienteering Championships 2021 (WMTBOC), to be held in Kuortane, Finland from June 10-18, have determined that the event can be held as planned. One final approval for the event needs to be given by the Finnish Border Guard, but this was not possible to obtain until the decision about the organisation of the event was final.
At the entry deadline March 28th, 16 national teams had made their entries, including all of the top 10 ranked national teams in MTBO. This met the participation requirements set previously by the IOF Council. Including the Junior World Mountainbike Orienteering Championships (JWMTBOC), the event will welcome just over 200 participants to 5 days of competitions.
The organisers have made preliminary planning for the safe conduct of the event considering the Covid-19 pandemic situation. The event will be held in a competition “bubble” with all teams staying at a common athlete’s village located at the Kuortane Olympic Training Center. The competitions will be held without spectators present, and without any parallel public competitions, to maintain the integrity of the bubble. More details will be communicated as the event approaches and the plans are updated with the then valid information regarding Covid-19 restrictions and precautions.
– The IOF is very pleased and hopeful that our elite MTB Orienteers will be able to compete at the highest level and status at the championships in Finland in June, says Tom Hollowell, IOF Secretary General/CEO. – The organisers in Kuortane have made great efforts in planning for a Covid-19 safe event and we will continue to work with them and the local authorities to fulfill the task.
More information about the event can be found on the WMTBOC 2021 event webpage and on the IOF Eventor event page.

8TH OF FEBRUARY 2021
PLEASE NOTE THE DECISION OF THE IOF TO CHANGE THE TEAM SIZE ENTRY DEADLINE:
"The IOF has, in cooperation with the organisers, agreed a change to the Team Size entry deadline for the WMTBOC and JWMTBOC in Finland June 10 – 18.
The Team Size entry shall be made prior to March 28, 2021. (previously April 10).
The reason for this change is of course concerns about Covid-19 effects on entries and the ability to conduct the event. The organiser needs to make a decision prior to March 31 about the organisation of the event. If a decision was made after March 31, the organiser would incur some significant unavoidable costs which could no longer be cancelled (for example cancellation fees for accommodations and facilities etc). So we feel that the best way to make a fully informed decision about the conduct of the event is to ask for preliminary entries as of March 28. Changes to entries after March 28 will be handled in accordance with the conditions stated in Bulletin 2 for the event.
If you have any questions about this change of date please feel free to contact the IOF office or the WMTBOC 2021 Event Director Maarit Laitinen maarit.laitinen(at)kuortane.com."

14TH MAY 2020
INVITATION
Dear friends of mountain bike orienteering,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee I am honored to invite all the IOF federations to take part in the World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships 2021 in Alajärvi, Alavus, Kuortane and Seinäjoki in the beautiful region of South Ostrobothnia.
The close connection between physical activity and nature makes mountain bike orienteering particularly attractive for both competitors and spectators. During the championships, I hope that you will enjoy the unpolluted and fresh air and discover our country that is called the land of thousands of lakes and forests, as you may have heard. Despite you will be competing against each other as individuals and as national teams in the championships, I wish that you will spend time together, cheer each other and make friends with competitors all over the world.
We are looking forward to this remarkable sports event and we have done our best to make the 19th World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships as great
success. I hope you will have great time in Finland and I wish good luck to all competitors.
Tapio Korjus
President of the Organizing Committee
Director of Kuortane Olympic Training Center
Olympic champion in Javelin 1988
